Koh Tao Diving Guide 2025 — Best Dive Sites, PADI Courses & How to Get There
Thailand's dive capital: the best dive sites on Koh Tao, how to get your PADI Open Water, ferry schedules, and where to stay for divers.
Koh Tao has earned its reputation as one of the world's most popular places to learn to dive. Its warm, clear Gulf of Thailand waters, affordable dive courses, and spectacular marine life draw over 100,000 divers a year.
🤿 Best Dive Sites
Chumphon Pinnacle
One of the best dives in all of Southeast Asia. A seamount rising from 40 m to 14 m, covered in hard and soft corals, with almost guaranteed sightings of whale sharks (October–January), giant grouper, and schooling bigeye jacks. Suitable for Advanced divers only.
Sail Rock (Hin Bai)
Rising 15 m above the surface between Koh Tao and Koh Phangan, Sail Rock is famous for its "chimney" — a vertical swim-through packed with fish. One of the top 10 dive sites in Thailand. Regular day trips from both islands.
HTMS Sattakut (Wreck)
A decommissioned US Navy vessel deliberately sunk in 2011 as an artificial reef. Sits at 20–30 m depth. Penetration dive for experienced divers. Encrusted in coral and home to huge moray eels, lion fish, and trevallies.
Tanote Bay
The best snorkelling and entry-level dive site on the island. Calm and shallow with boulders, brain corals, and lots of smaller reef fish. Easy beach entry.
